Iaido is the art of drawing, cutting and resheathing the Japanese sword. Admitance to this class is by referal or application only. Please contact the dojo to submit an application.
We study mainly Muso Shinden Ryu Iaido, but also teach a comprehensive body of Iaido including Omori Ryu, Shindo Munen Ryu, Hosoda Ryu, Muso Jikiden Eishin Ryu, Toyama Ryu, and Seitei Iai.
Our Introduction to Iaido program is offered twice per year. This is a three month course where students learn one basic Iaido set consisting of 12 techniques, sword terminology, etiquette, and the basic cutting and re-sheating of the Japanese sword.
"Iaido is the art of drawing the sword and cutting in a single move. It dates back to feudal Japan and appears to have been structured by Jinsuke Hayashizaki in the XVIth century. Iaido is practiced in the form of katas (sequence of codified moves)."
- Claude Berthiaume Sensei
